Influenced by Dark Vision Optics – Gothic Rock Accessories … the Gothic subculture

Dark Vision Optics – Gothic Rock Accessories – Where did goth come from?

Goth is a subculture that began in the United Kingdom in the early 1980s, developed by fans of gothic rock, a genre of music that traces back to post-punk. The name goth came directly from the genre. Among the most important post-punk artists who heralded the genre of gothic rock are Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bauhaus, The Cure and Joy Division. They, in fact, helped to develop and shape the subculture.

Spread of goth

The Gothic subculture has been far more prevalent than others of the same era and continues to diversify and spread throughout the world. Its imagery and cultural tendencies suggest influences from 19th century gothic fiction and horror films. The scene is focused on music festivals, nightclubs and organized meetings, especially in Western Europe. It is noteworthy that this subculture connects music, aesthetics and fashion.

The differentiation of goth

The music preferred by goths includes a range of styles including gothic rock, death rock, post-punk, horror punk, cold wave, dark wave and ethereal wave. Additionally, clothing styles in the subculture are based on punk, new wave, and new romantic fashion. It also takes cues from the fashions of earlier periods such as Victorian, Edwardian and Belle Epoque.
